Christina Akerson, who went by the stage name “Christina Nuki”, recently moved to San Jose, California after spending 14 years in New York City performing Opera, Broadway, Jazz, & Cabaret. In order to survive the demands of a professional singing career, Christina Akerson’s philosophy was simple: “Technique! Technique!” Her vocal pedagogy emphasizes the 5 elements of healthy singing:
Breath support
Register alignment
Vowel placement
Resonance
Natural vibrato
She firmly believes that once the elements are mastered, a range of musical styles (pop, jazz, musical theatre or opera) are at the student’s whim.
Christina Akerson’s education started in high school at the Eastman School of Music, and was then awarded full scholarships to earn both degrees of a Bachelor of Arts, in Voice at UCLA, and a Master of Music, in Opera at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. She has been taught and mentored by some of the most revered classical voice teachers in the country: Trish McCaffrey, Beverly Johnson, Ashley Putnam, Arabella Hong Young, & Timothy Mussard.
Once she had a strong foundation in classical voice, Christina Akerson was able to make a career of singing countless roles in Opera and Broadway. She opens her vocal studio to those talented students who are willing to learn a very prestigious craft. Christina has been on staff at Soyulla Artists in New York City, The Santa Catalina School in Monterey, and Jekyll Island- the State Theater of Georgia. Her studio is open to students of all ages.
